Je … desto

B1 · Intermediate · Advanced Structures

The rule

Je + comparative, desto + comparative.

How it works

Je … desto (the more … the more) links two comparisons so that one change depends on the other. Je comes with a comparative in one clause, and desto with a comparative in the second clause. In writing, the structure is often used to show proportion.

When to use it

Link two changes with je … desto (the more … the more), with comparatives in both clauses.
